Name and age: Lindsay Takisaki, 27
Occupation: I have my teaching degree, but now I am a stay at home mom with my sweet 17-month-old daughter.
When I see _____ on the board at Farmgirlfit, I get happy.
When I see sprints, box jumps, and kettlebell workouts on the board I feel happy. I love running, getting faster at running, and being outside. I also love box jumps I don’t know why, I just do. Same with kettle bells! They are fun!
When I see _____ on the board at Farmgirlfit, I groan and think about running away.
When I see max reps or BEARS written on the board I groan and think of running away. I can get discouraged when I can still only clean and jerk/thrust/shoulder press at a level I feel I should be past by now, but I have to just remind myself how far I’ve come. BEARS are just torture to me! It’s a love/hate relationship, but mostly hate!!
Tell us about your fitness journey.
Growing up I was never very athletic or driven to be. After I graduated high school and started college I began running. Eventually I started doing different 5K’s, 10K’s, and a half marathon. My next step was a full marathon, but about a month and a half out I injured my ankle/foot and lost all motivation. I began teaching and running happened less and less.
Why did you initially join Farmgirlfit? What was your goal when you started?
Jeni Davaz was my master teacher a few years back, and had become one of my good friends. As I saw her throughout my pregnancy I saw her motivation, drive, love for, and amazing results from FGF. I remember telling her often that after I had my baby I would come check it out. (But really, inside I was terrified, and didn’t think I ever would.)
Last August I was 9 weeks post partum, feeling extremely depressed and hopeless at where my body and health was. I had gained 40 pounds in pregnancy, and when I got pregnant I was the heaviest I had been in years, about 20 pounds heavier than I wanted to be. So … FGF was running a contest if you messaged why they should choose you, you would win a free 3-month membership. Jeni told me to go for it so I did. My good friend who had a baby 5 days before me saw this and said, “Lets do this journey together.”
So we went and it was hard! I remember feeling slow, weak, and like I would never finish that first workout. But I did! And I loved the feeling of accomplishment, and all the encouragement I got from the Jeni D and the other girls there. Heather and I were both hooked.
I had a few different goals when I started: to lose 60 pounds and to become strong and fit! An athlete!
What has been your greatest fitness (performance) accomplishment so far? Do you have a performance goal?
Well, there’s been a few!! Lifting weights are so hard for me! I could barely lift the empty 35 pound bar when I first started. So now cleaning and thrusting 55-65 pounds has been exciting for me!! Double unders have been challenging for me to get!! I finally got them!! Woohoo! Now I just need to get them in a row!
Also, this summer I ran the fastest mile of my life: 7:54!
My next goals are to do an unassisted pull-up, get my double unders in a row, and continue to get stronger.
How has FGF helped you become more healthy / When it comes to your health, what goals do you have?
I think FGF has made me become more healthy by showing me healthy doesn’t necessarily mean skinny. Before I ran or worked out to be a certain weight and size. Now I look at it completely different. I work out to get stronger and to be the healthiest wife and mom I can be for my family. I also have a healthier relationship with food! One of my new favorite mottos is “Don’t eat less, eat better!”
Another way FGF has helped me get healthier is to help me lose those 60 pounds I needed to lose to be healthier!!!
My favorite thing about Farmgirlfit is ________
My favorite thing about FGF is the fact that I can come to a gym where there is already a workout planned for me, awesome trainers there to help and encourage, and friends to work out with. I also love that it’s all women! I really love FGF, and am so thankful for it!!
What do your off-days look like?
Right now my off days involve Insanity workouts or possibly a run. I really love running and going on walks, but this time of year find myself not going as frequently because of how early it gets dark and how cold it is!!
