Well I was always really active as a kid playing all the sports I could and as I entered high school I really started to focus on basketball. Between playing club and school and spring and summer leagues basketball was really year round so any conditioning I did was specific to the sport (agility, sprints, weights). That continued when I went to Gonzaga to play basketball where the summers were filled with open gyms, lifting and running then the intensity turned up in the fall to get ready for season.
After graduating from GU I went to play overseas basketball in Switzerland and Australia. During that time I found I was a little lost fitness-wise because for the first time I didn’t have a coach telling me what I needed to do to prep for season. I put together workouts on my own for a while but then joined a CrossFit gym in Australia. I loved the workouts and the atmosphere there so when I came back to Spokane I searched for a gym where that had a similar feel. That’s when I checked out Farmgirlfit and the challenging/creative workouts along with the welcoming members and trainers really made me love it!
If you could tell your Farmgirlfit story in 100 words or less, how would it read?
I first came to Farmgirlfit on the recommendation of a handful of members and from the start I had a blast. It gave me a competitive outlet, usually just with myself but nothing wrong with trying to beat someone else’s time on the board 😉 . And I feel like it’s put me in some of the best overall fitness I’ve ever been in. The workouts are always creative and keep me motivated. Plus, my mom and sister joined last winter as well and it’s made for fun family time on top of everything else! The people and the atmosphere at Farmgirlfit has been incredible.
What has been your greatest fitness (performance) accomplishment so far? Do you have a performance goal?
I think learning/improving on any new skill has been the best part. Like kipping on pull ups, handstands, or improving any Olympic lift has been really fun. My performance goals for November were to do a muscle up/5 meter handstand walk and the end of the month came real quick but I want to stay on those goals regardless!
How has FGF helped you become more healthy / When it comes to your health, what goals do you have?
I think FGF has provided a great amount of resources when it comes to fitness as well as nutrition which has helped me become more healthy. My health goal is to continue to find new ways to improve my overall health in the long run which can include my diet and different ways to exercise.
My favorite thing about Farmgirlfit is ________
The workouts and how there are always new goals to be met. Like the pennies for pull ups or setting goals in November. There’s always something fun that keeps me motivated.
How have you integrated the Farmgirlfit mission outside of the gym?
A direct way I’ve been able to do this is passing on a lot of what I’ve learned to the athletes on my basketball team at Whitworth. It’s fun to be able to pass on new ways of working out and nutrition advice to them to keep the team motivated.
When you’re not pumping iron at FGF, what does the rest of your life look like?
Outside of FGF I’m either up at Whitworth, especially in season, coaching basketball or just spending time with friends and family!
Any advice for new members, or your fellow Farmgirls?
Enjoy it and have fun! Always keep personal goals for yourself. If you look at a workout and see something on that board that isn’t your “favorite” then see it as an opportunity to push your threshold and get better
